Ohtani Tears UCL in Right Elbow; Won’t Pitch anymore in 2023

UPDATE–4:15 ET–Ohtani plans to continue to be a DH .

Baseball’s best player Shohei Ohtani has a torn UCL in his right elbow and will not pitch again in 2023.

Ohtani left Wednesday’s first game of a doubleheader in the second inning. He DH’d in the nightcap.

UCL tears usually constitute Tommy John Surgery, for which Ohtani went through in 2018. This could greatly affect his free agency as Ohtani is expected to command a record salary in excess of $500 million.

The Los Angeles Angels are expected to seek a second opinion.
